Materials

  • 45 Popsicle sticks (plain or Colored)
  • 2 Paper Plates
  • 5 Paper Cups
  • Wooden Beads
  • Scissor
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Thick thread
  • Needle
  • Ruler

instructions

The Cups

  1. Pick a beautiful color combination of popsicle sticks for each of the 5 cups. The number of sticks would depend on the diameter of the cup. I used 9 sticks for each cup.
  2. Mark the center of each stick and cut into halves.
  3. If needed, mark and cut the cups so that their height is slightly lesser than that of the sticks.
  4. Apply glue on the cup and stick the sticks side by side. Adjust the gap between the sticks so that they are evenly spread out around the cup.

The Hanger

  1. Stick 2 paper plates together (for added thickness and strength).
  2. Mark five points in the plate at equal distance from each other (where the thread will go inside).

Thread Attchment

  1. Cut threads at 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 inches length. (Leave allowance so that there is enough extra length to tie the knots)
  2. Take the 5 inch thread, put a small knot, insert a bead, insert the needle and pierce through a hole in the center of the cup.
  3. Add a few more beads and make another knot at 2.5 inches (middle of 5 inch). Add more beads.
  4. Pierce the plate at a point you marked earlier. Insert one more bead and make another knot. Chop off the extra thread.
  5. Repeat for all the cups.

The Loop

  1. Make a hole in the center of the plate. (Make sure it’s exactly at the center for perfect balance).
  2. Cut a piece of thread 4-6 inches long.
  3. Pass it through the hole from the outside and make a big tight knot inside. Chop off the ends.

And there you go!

Hang the wind chimes in a special corner and admire your delightful creation 🙂
